In a scientific clinical study, 24 healthy subjects consumed either a diet rich in Medium Chain Triglyceride, or Long chain triglycerides, with the MCT-containing diet containing a functional oil composed of 64.7% MCT oil, over 28 days. Upper body adipose tissue (AT) decreased to a greater extent (p < 0.05) with MCT oil, compared with olive oil (OL) consumption (-0.67 +/- 0.26 kg and -0.02 +/- 0.19 kg, respectively). This result was statistically significant. There was a trend also toward greater loss of whole-body subcutaneous adipose tissue volume (p = 0.087) with MCT oil compared with Olive oil consumption. Similarly, average fat burning was greater (p = 0.052) with MCT OIL compared with OLIVE OIL (LCT). Therefore, Consumption of a diet rich in MCTs results in greater loss of Adipose Tissue (fat tissue) compared with LCTs, perhaps due to increased energy expenditure and fat oxidation observed with MCT intake.
